چکیده

Filled-skutterudite heavy fermion (HF) compounds host rich ground states depending on the f electron configurations. CeOs4Sb12 (COS) with Ce 4f1, and PrOs4Sb12 (POS) Pr 4f2 configurations show distinct properties of Kondo insulating HF superconductivity, respectivity. We unveiled underlying microscopic origin by angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy studies. Their eV-scale band structure matches well, representing common characters conduction electrons in ROs4Sb12 systems (R = rare earth). However, interact differently them. Strong hybridization between is observed COS dependent gaps, development state directly revealed. Although POS a singlet, finite but incoherent exists due to scattering thermally excited triplet crystalline electric field (CEF) state. Our results help understand intriguing POS, provide clean demonstration differences 4f1

Weyl–Kondo semimetal in heavy-fermion systems

Insulating states can be topologically nontrivial, a well-established notion that is exemplified by the quantum Hall effect and topological insulators. By contrast, topological metals have not been experimentally evidenced until recently. In systems with strong correlations, they have yet to be identified. Heavy-fermion semimetals are a prototype of strongly correlated systems and, given their ...

Heavy fermion superconductivity in the filled skutterudite compoundPrOs4Sb12

The filled skutterudite compound PrOs4Sb12 has been found to exhibit superconductivity with a critical temperature Tc = 1.85 K that develops out of a heavy Fermi liquid with an effective mass m ∗ ≈ 50 me. The current experimental situation regarding the heavy fermion state, the superconducting state, and a high field, low temperature phase that is apparently associated with magnetic or quadrupo...

Heavy fermion screening effects and gauge invariance.

We show that the naively expected large virtual heavy fermion effects in low energy processes may be screened if the process under consideration contains external gauge bosons constrained by gauge invariance. We illustrate this by a typical example of the process γγ → bb̄. Phenomenological implications are also briefly indicated. PACS: 11.15.Bt, 11.15.Ex, 12.15.Lk

Heavy fermion properties of the Kondo Lattice model

We study the S = 1/2 Kondo lattice model which is widely used to describe heavy fermion behavior. In conventional treatments of the model the Kondo interaction is decoupled in favour of a hybridization of conduction and localized f electrons. However, such an approximation breaks the local gauge symmetry and implicates that the local f-occupation is no longer conserved. To avoid these problems,...

How Kondo-holes create intense nanoscale heavy-fermion hybridization disorder.

Replacing a magnetic atom by a spinless atom in a heavy-fermion compound generates a quantum state often referred to as a "Kondo-hole". No experimental imaging has been achieved of the atomic-scale electronic structure of a Kondo-hole, or of their destructive impact [Lawrence JM, et al. (1996) Phys Rev B 53:12559-12562] [Bauer ED, et al. (2011) Proc Natl Acad Sci. 108:6857-6861] on the hybridiz...
